Technology available online: Web 2.0 applications & tools (open source).

I wanted to share with you some really great resources on Web 2.0 technology that I've found useful.

WEb 2.0 tools:
This is a wiki created by Frances Jacobson Harris (UHigh school librarian at UIUC) for a workshop on Web 2.0. It provides a great introduction to Web 2.0 and Web 2.0 resources.

Screen capture - video: Jing (like Camtasia but open source)
I just started using Jing (for Mac) this semester and love it! It allows you do a screen capture and then edit it (add arrows, text, circle things, etc) and it also lets you create videos (including audio) so that you can easily do things like tutorials or modeling a search for students. FREE!

Want to have your students create videos, but not sure how? This free, downloadable guide shows you how to do this using free, open source software. Excellent!

Great resource that gives tips on getting around filters blocking youtube in the classroom. It also mentions ways that you can upload your own videos to the internet.

Streaming music online:
This article from school library journal reviews a lot of different music sites, some of which I had never heard of. She also suggests ideas for using these sites for lesson plans or library activities.
